he Social Welfare and Community Development Unit of Ga Central Municipal Assembly has distributed items worth millions of Ghana cedis to economically empower persons with disability in the society. The initiative aims to improve their social well-being while promoting development with equity for the disadvantaged.
The event happened on Tuesday, 5th November 2024, at the forecourt of the Assembly.
A brief address was given by the Chairman of the event, Mr. Joseph Addo, who said, the society should recognize people with disabilities and promote them with all the support they need. The vision is to take the lead in integrating disadvantaged people into mainstream development.
Madam Lydia Apaalah, Head of Social Welfare Unit of the Ga Central Municipal Assembly in her address said, the Social Welfare and Disability Fund Committee of the Assembly has been set up to support people with disabilities for their economic freedom. She said the Assembly is ready to support persons PwDs in the various communities so that they can become economically independent.
Items such as sewing machines, deep freezers, oven, cloths, money and many more were given to a total of 24 persons with disabilities with 17 being males and 7 being females.
